Microsoft is giving consumers more gigabytes for their buck. The company today announced an Xbox 360® console with triple the storage space of the original console, but for the same price of $349 (U.S.) estimated retail price.

Available in retail stores in the U.S. and Canada starting in early August, the upgraded Xbox 360 will include a 60GB hard drive for storing the growing wealth of digital entertainment available for the console, including music, movies, television shows, and game content. In addition, Microsoft today dropped the price of its 20GB Xbox 360 console in the U.S. and Canada to just $299 (U.S.) (ERP) while supplies last, a savings of $50.

“We know consumers need more and more space to store the amazing digital content Xbox 360 offers, and we’re giving it to them at no extra charge,” said Albert Penello, Xbox director of product management at Microsoft. “No one device offers the depth and breadth of entertainment that Xbox 360 can deliver, and now you’ll have three times the storage to manage all that great content.”

Xbox 360 is just one of three Xbox 360 gaming and entertainment systems Microsoft offers. Microsoft’s Xbox 360 Arcade, which comes with a 256MB memory unit and five Xbox LIVE Arcade games, is a value for the whole family for $279 (U.S.) (ERP), and the premium Xbox 360 Elite console is available with a 120GB hard drive for $449 (U.S.) (ERP).

HP today announced that HP MediaSmart Connect, a digital receiver that brings digital media from around the home or the Internet(1) to any HDTV, is now available for pre-order.

Whether digital videos, music and photos are stored on a notebook across the room or a desktop in a home office,(2) HP MediaSmart Connect can find and display them all in a single list on any HDTV.(3)

Additionally, the digital media receiver can connect people to a wealth of online content from wherever they watch TV. Consumers can, for example, rent or purchase thousands of day-and-date release movies from CinemaNow, share and purchase photos from Snapfish and discover new Internet(1) radio stations from Live365.

Extender for Windows® Media Center offers extended world of entertainment
HP MediaSmart takes advantage of Extender for Windows Media Center technology, giving owners an additional set of features using PCs with Windows Vista® Home Premium or Windows Vista Ultimate operating systems.(4)

Consumers can enjoy a world of content from online services such as Vongo, MovieLink and FOX Sports. HP MediaSmart Connect can stream digital media over wired and wireless(6) (802.11a, b and g, and dual-band draft 802.11n)(7) networks and features two USB ports as well as an HP Pocket Media Drive bay (drive sold separately) for easy transition of digital media from HP PCs.

The business orientation of this new upgrade and the price adjustment will put some pression to rivals, those that were creating new products with more and more features, but in the end its products were not more than a iphone copy, now the war is moved to new ground, price vs features and Apple has the strong lead again, but know the iphone is more than just an iphone, it is a complete platform that provides excellent features for Mobile users, Hardcore Gamers and Business People, plus and iPod.

Can RIM turns its business oriented Blackberry brand into a gaming platform and at the same time approaches Businesses with more and more feature ready solutions? Or can they have a product that compete with the iphone in every aspect? The long answer is not, it is a hard task to bring a complete solution that fits everybody and Apple is doing it the right way, good product, good price strategy, excellent features, a better mobile experience with Mobile Me and what is more compelling is that they are providing all those features in Microsoft Holy Ground.

The iPhone 3G is out, with all the features we all knew and a new price, a price that will break down the last barrier between you and your iPhone and what is worse is the message Apple is sending to its rivals, some kind of “keep out my track, breaks not working”, the only phone that can beat the iphone is the iphone, got it?.

Even Die-Hard anti Mac, Paul Thurrot is recommending to buy the iPhone 3G in masses: “I’m almost unreservedly excited about the iPhone 3G and implore you to seriously consider making the switch. I’ll have more information about the iPhone 3G in the SuperSite Blog and in an upcoming MobileMe preview before my final review hits next month. But don’t wait on me: It’s time to start evaluating Apple’s innovative new smart phone. Finally, the iPhone really is the smart phone for the rest of us.”

It got to be good for somebody that is always looking for the baaad things in any Apple product to suddenly start recommending people to buy the iPhone and provide a real and positive review, could it really means what we all already know, it is really a good product.

To compete with rivals in the mobile business, Apple licensed Exchange from Microsoft and merged it with .mac, creating an ultra elegant, easy to use and features rich Mobile Me service that is almost impossible to avoid, the service is so interesting that Google and Microsoft have to been knocking they heads on the wall, there is nothing on the market that compete with the INTEGRATION of Mobile Me, in your iPhone, your PC, your Macbook and the net. I think that this week will be a hard week for some software analyst, trying to evalute and mimmick Mobile Me.

My hope is that some of them, I mean Google can create this integration with all of its services, it would be nice, I will keep dreaming.

Mac OS X Lite is a new version with limited functions and with a 30 days use period created to be given away to any pc user that buy an ipod or any ipod related stuff at Best Buys, Target or Circuit City. The idea is give users the possibility of test drive the new Mac OS X Leopard in its own machine (PC) parallel to Windows.

This is a Guerrilla marketing that will put OS X in front of millions of pc users that want to try the system, but consider the cost of the mac too expensive, the user will feel how smooth Leopard works compare to Windows and test drive any feature for a limited time (30 days), after the set date the system will be useless and will uninstall itself, in theory it may works without any problem, I have seen OS X running in intel PCs (PC Hardware) and it runs perfectly, even Final Cut Pro and Photoshop CS3, so Apple has the chance here.

Giving away a test version of Leopard will put Apple in the face of Millions new users and the possibility that some of them jump to the Mac bandwagon are bigger than Apple can achieve without promoting OS X the way it deserves.

There will be some hardware problems, nothing new to Windows users, but Apple can streamlined the installation process and create generic drivers to specific devices, Apple can, you know.

Today Microsoft Corp. announced that a limited-edition Zune digital media player designed by Peter Saville will be made available to commemorate the DVD release of “Joy Division,” the critically acclaimed documentary. The film will come pre-loaded on a custom black Zune 80 player that is etched with an adaptation of Saville’s iconic artwork from Joy Division’s “Unknown Pleasures” album. Five hundred limited- edition players will be available for purchase June 17 for $399.99 through http://www.zune.net and http://www.zuneoriginals.net. In addition, Zune Marketplace will feature exclusive outtakes from the DVD.

“Joy Division” chronicles the story of the seminal post-punk band via firsthand accounts from the surviving band members and those who worked closely with them during their brief but highly influential existence.

“Partnering with Zune gives us a unique platform to tell the story of an iconic band and present something special to their fans,” said Tom Atencio, the film’s co-producer. “It also opens the door to a whole new world of possibilities regarding innovative promotion and distribution methods for independent films.”

The DVD release of “Joy Division” is also set for a June 17 release through Genius Products and The Weinstein Company, and has been widely praised for highlighting the enduring influence of the Manchester quartet while poignantly conveying the story of their brief career. The film was directed by Grant Gee, director of “Meeting People Is Easy” and “Demon Days.”

s Xbox 360 dashboard update has sneaked in something extra: the hoped-for addition of DivX playback functionality.The Xbox Team’s official blog includes an AVI file support FAQ, which says the console now “supports files encoded using MPEG-4 Part 2, Simple and Advanced Simple Profile”, which the team adds are “often referred to as Xvid or DivX video files”.Another FAQ on the web page, entitled ‘What exactly does the Xbox 360 support for AVI?’, also mentions support for .divx file extensions.However, the site warns that while some files authored for DivX devices may contain additional functions, such as menus or subtitles, the console won’t support these. It also states that, in some cases, the console may not even be able to play the file at all.The Xbox 360 will only support content encoded with DivX version 5.0 or later.[via reghardware.co.uk]
