Apple MobileMe in concept is an out of this world and easy to use technology that will have you updated instantly and everywhere, this new Cloud based service promises to put Apple in the front of every major Personal Information network service provider.

But MobileMe has been the most unsuccesful launch of any product Apple has delivered, it has been critized for its slow-to-crawl malfunctions that has plagued it since its introduction in conjunction with the iPod 3G, which it will served as the main source for update and syncronization.

Apple acknowledged that there is a big bug in the service and is planning a fix and at the same time gave an additional month to its subscribers, while users worldwide are angry because the poor transition from the .Mac service to the new and refreshed MobileMe.

Something important to notice is that MobileMe is based in Exchange and this is the first time Apple deploys a system or service based almost completely in the technology of Microsoft, at the same time Microsoft is beta testing Mesh, a similar service that will compete directly with MobileMe. Mesh will be offered free. The ironic part of this story is that Apple has been joking about Internet Explorer and its lack of usability when it comes to MobileMe on Windows PC, but the service is unusable on any browser, not just IE.

If I were Apple, I stop billing my clients until the system is up and running and all the features promised work flawlessly, this is a shame situation for Apple and its users and need an immediate fix to save the Service from massive client desertion.

The Associated Press announced today that 728 AP newspapers have joined its Mobile News Network — a 580 percent jump in media participation — since its launch in May.

Without any doubt Apple reported better than expected numbers in compliance with its guidance based on the massive Mac and iPhone sales that is helping gain more marketshare every single quarter. Apple have moved more than 2 million macs, 11 million iPods and 717,000 iphones, but to analists those numbers just represent a mandatory evolution and nothing espectacular, what is really important for them is the next Quarter and Steve Jobs health problems, something that risk Apple economy stability, it doesn’t matter if Apple sells 25 million iPhones analists will find the way to hammer Apple Stock price.

This situation happen every quarter, Apple reports good sales of mac and ipods and immediately get beaten because somebody considers those numbers aren’t what he/she was expecting. Here the first 100 tips and tricks of the 1000 list, I have collected them from all over the internet to my own usage, but found it interesting to let you master them while I upload the next 100. Some of them work fine on the ipod touch, but not all tips are guaranteed to do so.

1.- How To Create A WebClip Icon For Your Site

This is a good tip for those of you who design web sites and applications geared toward the iPhone. Dan Dickinson posted instructions for creating the icon for your site that shows up on the springboard when someone creates a web clip for it.

Create a 57×57 PNG.
Name it “apple-touch-icon.png”

Throw it in the root folder of your website. (Not the root of your server ,the root of your web documents.)
You can also place the image in a link tag in the head of your document, like so:

2.- What to do if your iPhone gets wet

Whether the culprit is a sink, toilet or rainstorm, getting your iPhone soaked in water or any other liquid is bad news. If the unthinkable happens, and you don’t have insurance, your best bet is to make sure the iPhone is off, swap it down with a dry cloth, then do one of the following immediately:

Put your iPhone in a tub or bag of uncooked rice and let it sit for several hours (up to 2 days).
Place your iPhone in a plastic bag with a few silica packets.
Put your iPhone in a hearing aid dryer for several hours.
The point with all of these methods is to draw all moisture out of the phone as quickly as possible. Just air-drying the unit is an option, but won’t act as quickly as the aforementioned methods.

If none of these tactics prove effective, and your iPhone loses significant or all functionality, an Apple FAQ states that if you own an iPhone and it requires service for any reason other than the battery (which costs $86 total to replace), Apple will repair your iPhone for the service fee listed below, plus $6.95 for shipping and handling:

4GB: $199
8GB: $249
Presumably this includes liquid damage, though Apple states “Service may not be available if your iPhone has been damaged due to accident or abuse.”

We’ve received reports from some readers who had success having their liquid-damaged iPhones replaced free of charge by geniuses at the Apple Store, but don’t count on it. This type of replacement is likely only if it can be proven that the device was damaged during routine use.

3.- Set up Hotmail on the iPhone via Gmail

I know a few people who have had Hotmail address for a long time and don’t want to change. They also have bought iPhones and now have no way to use the built-in client on the iPhone to read mail. This solutions lets them read Hotmail on their iPhone. (Actually, the same setup can apply for Apple Mail, too.) One catch here is that your Hotmail account must support Forwarding. You can see it is does under the Hotmail Options.

Basically these instructions help you set up forwarding in Hotmail so that incoming messages are forwarded from Hotmail to a Gmail account. This also sets up Gmail and the iPhone to make replies and new messages look like they come from Hotmail. When complete, you can read, reply, and send messages in Gmail and the iPhone as if you were on Hotmail.

With this solution in place:

Email people send to your Hotmail address will be visible on your iPhone in the built-in iPhone Mail software.
If you reply to a message on the iPhone or in Gmail, to your recipients it will look like it came from your Hotmail address.
You can still check mail using Hotmail on the web if you like.
You can also log into Gmail and see your Hotmail messages there.
An added bonus is that you will benefit from Gmail’s junk mail filter, which is excellent.
Since Gmail supports IMAP, the iPhone and the Gmail mailbox is synced nicely as you read, delete and filter messages.
Note: While you can still read email on the Hotmail website as you currently do, there is an advantage to reading your Hotmail in your new Gmail account. The iPhone and the Gmail account will be synced — so for example, Gmail and the iPhone will keep track of which messages you have read on either device. If you get a message and read it on the iPhone, when you check your Gmail account it will also show as read. Were you to check your mail on Hotmail.com, messages you have already read on the iPhone will show as new.

The same goes for deleting messages. If you delete a message on the Gmail site, these will be deleted from the iPhone, too. The same is true for filters. You can set up filters on the Gmail site, and this filtering will by synced to the iPhone. None of this is synced with the mail you see on Hotmail.com. So basically, if you implement this, you are better off just checking and reading your Hotmail messages in Gmail, but its up to you.

In addition to these steps, you may need to do work to bring your Hotmail address book to Gmail. Gmail has some instructions to help with that.

Start with Gmail. Create a new Gmail account. Note that you could use an existing Gmail account for this solution. This has some tradeoffs, one being that messages you send from the iPhone appear to come from that Gmail account instead of your existing Hotmail account. If you just want to keep your Hotmail account intact and use that as your main account, I think it’s better for to create a new Gmail account and just use that for handling Hotmail.

Under Settings, go to Forwarding and POP/IMAP » Enable IMAP. Save the changes. Under Settings and then Accounts, add another email address — add your existing Hotmail account.

Now go to Hotmail. In your inbox, there should be a message from Gmail; you need to click on a link in that message. Next go to Options and set up forwarding to your new Gmail account. It’s up to you whether messages are retained in Hotmail. (If you don’t have an option for forwarding, you may be out of luck. Perhaps others have advice on how to get Hotmail to allow this.)

Back to Gmail: There should be a message from Hotmail; you need to click on a link in that message. Now back into Gmail settings, under Accounts, you should see your Hotmail email address listed. Click on the link that says Make Default. From here on, you can use Gmail as your way to check Hotmail. You actually do not need to login to Hotmail any more to read mail, you can use your Gmail account as the web-based way to check Hotmail.

Now how to access from iPhone: On the iPhone, go to Settings and then Mail. Delete any previous attempts you’ve made to make a Hotmail account — these can cause problems with the new account you create. Create a new email account by clicking Add Account. On the next screen, choose Other (don’t pick Gmail). Here are the settings:

Name: Your Name
Address: Your current hotmail.com email address
Description: (can be anything) “hotmail”
Incoming Mail Server:
HostName: imap.gmail.com
UserName: yournewaddress@gmail.com
Password: the password for this gmail account
Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.gmail.com
UserName: yournewaddress@gmail.com
Password: the password for this gmail account
All other settings should match the defaults.
Send yourself a test message to your Hotmail account from another account. Give it a few minutes, and it should then show on your iPhone.

4.- Double-Tapping
Double-tapping is actually pretty rare on the iPhone. It’s not like the Mac or Windows, where double-clicking the mouse means “open.” On the iPhone, you open something with one tap.

A double tap, therefore, is reserved for three functions:
In Photos, Google Maps, and Safari (the Web browser), double-tapping zooms in on whatever you tap, magnifying it by a factor of two.
In the same programs, as well as Mail, double-tapping means, “restore to original size” after you’ve zoomed in. (Weirdly, in Google Maps, you use a different gesture to zoom out: tap once with two fingers. That gesture appears nowhere else on the iPhone.)

When you’re watching a video, double-tapping eliminates or restores letterbox bars.
See, the iPhone’s screen is bright, vibrant, and stunningly sharp. It’s not, however, the right shape for videos.
Standard TV shows are squarish, not rectangular. So when you watch TV shows, you get black letterbox columns on either side of the picture.
Movies have the opposite problem. They’re too wide for the iPhone screen. So when you watch movies, you wind up with letterbox bars above and below the picture.

Some people are fine with that. At least when letterbox bars are onscreen, you know you’re seeing the complete composition of the scene the director intended.

Other people can’t stand letterbox bars. You’re already watching on a pretty small screen; why sacrifice some of that precious area to black bars?
That’s why the iPhone gives you a choice. If you double-tap the video as it plays, you zoom in, magnifying the image so that it fills the entire screen.
Part of the image is now off the screen; now you’re not seeing the entire composition originally broadcast. You lose the top and bottom of TV scenes, or the left and right edges of movie scenes.

If this effect winds up chopping off something important—some text on the screen, for example—restoring the original letterbox view is just another double-tap away.

5.- Secrets of the Sensors
The iPhone has three cool sensors. First, it has an accelerometer that detects when you’ve rotated the iPhone into landscape orientation. In programs like Photos, Safari, and iPod, it triggers the screen image to rotate as well.

Camouflaged behind the black glass where you can’t see them except with a bright flashlight are two more sensors: a proximity sensor that shuts off the screen illumination and touch sensitivity when the phone is against your head (it works only in the Phone application), and an ambient-light sensor that brightens the display when you’re in sunlight and dims it in darker places.

Apple says that it experimented with having the light sensor active all the time, but it was weird to have the screen get brighter and darker all the time. So the sensor now samples the ambient light, and adjusts the brightness; it does this only once—each time you unlock the phone after waking it.

You can use that tip to your advantage. By covering up the sensor (just above the earpiece) as you unlock the phone, you force it to a low-power, dim screen-brightness setting (because the phone believes that it’s in a dark room). Or by holding it up to a light as you wake it, you get full brightness. In both cases, you’ve saved all the taps and navigation it would have taken you to find the manual brightness slider in Settings.

6.- Earbud Cord Switch
Without close inspection, you’d have a hard time telling the iPhone’s white stereo earbuds apart from a regular iPod’s—but don’t get them mixed up. The iPhone’s earbuds have a tiny, embedded clicker/microphone partway down the right earbud cord.

That’s right, “clicker/microphone.” The tiny bulge is the microphone for phone calls. But if you pinch the bulge, you’ll find that it clicks.
Pinch once to answer an incoming phone call. Pinch twice to dump the call to voicemail. (You can also tap or double-tap the Sleep/Wake switch on top of the iPhone for the same functions.)

During music or video playback, pinch once to pause the music; pinch again to resume playback.
During music playback, double-pinch to skip to the next song.

7.- Customizing the iPod Buttons
The iPod module on the iPhone starts out with buttons along the bottom for summoning four lists: Playlists, Artists, Songs, and Videos.

But what about Albums? Genres? Composers?
They’re there, all right, but hidden; you have to tap More to see them.

But what if you use those lists more often than Artists or Songs? No problem: you can replace one of those starter buttons with a list of your own.
Tap More, and then tap the Edit button (upper-left corner). You arrive at the Configure screen. Here’s the complete list of music-and-video sorting lists: Albums, Podcasts, Audiobooks, Genres, Composers, Compilations, Playlists, Artists, Songs, and Videos.

To replace one of the four starter icons, use a finger to drag an icon from the top half of the screen downward, directly onto the existing icon you want to replace. It lights up to show the success of your drag.

When you release your finger, you’ll see that the new icon has replaced the old one. Tap Done in the upper-right corner.

8.- Keyboard Speedups
Don’t bother using the Shift key to capitalize a new sentence. The iPhone does that capitalizing automatically.
Don’t put apostrophes in contractions, either; the iPhone will put those in for you, too.

9.- Force Quit, Hard Reset
The iPhone is pretty darned simple and stable, but it’s still a computer. In times of troubleshooting, these tips may come in handy:
Force quit a program. Press and hold the Home button for six seconds to force-quit a program that seems to be stuck.
Hard reset. If the entire iPhone locks up—it can happen—press and hold both the Home button and the Sleep/Wake switch for eight seconds. You’ll see the screen go black, and then the Apple logo appears as the iPhone reboots.

10.- How to Create Custom Ringtones in GarageBand 4.1.1 or QuickTime for Free
Here a couple of ways to create and use your own custom ringtones on the iPhone for free:
GarageBand (require: iLife)
For GarageBand users Apple’s latest update; 4.1.1 allows iPhone users to easily create their own Ringtones.
If the song you want is in your iTunes library; simply drag and drop the song from iTunes to Garageband into a new track.
Turn the cycle region on.
Adjust the cycle region of the song to accommodate what part of the song you want the ringtone to be; it can be any part of the song but must be 40 seconds or less.
Choose Share > Send Ringtone to iTunes
Sync with your iPhone, change your ringtone and have a friend phone you.
Via LifeHacker.However this expects you to own iLife which some users don’t so here’s another way which everyone can do with QuickTime that comes with every installation of Mac OSX.
QuickTime
Open the Song in QuickTime
Adjust the Selection Indicators to where want the ringtone to start and end (>40secs)

Copy the selection (?C)
Open new QuickTime Window
Paste the selection (?V)
Export (?E) the file as “INSERT_NAME_HERE”.m4r

Double click on the newly created Ringtone (in the Finder)
Sync with your iPhone, change your ringtone and have a friend phone you.
Unfortunately there are a few more steps but it just as simple, will work on both Macs and Windows and it is 100% free.Update: Apparently the regular version of QuickTime doesn’t have Selection Indicators so doing it that way will cost you $29.95. However you can accomplish this with any Audio Mixer/Editor; for example use Fission’s trial to edit the song into the ring tone you want and save it as .m4r. Or as Brad’s comment below shows you can also do this with the open source Audacity.

12.- Keyboard shortcut
If you alternate between the 2 keyboards (AZ and 123) a lot then you can save some typing by keeping the 123 pressed when you select that keyboard and dragging your finger to the chosen number or punctuation mark. Then lot go and you will be returned to the AZ keyboard.

13.- Loudest speaker volume ever?
I think I’ve found a way to get the loudest speaker volume on an iPhone or have stupidly messed up my tiny speaker on my iPhone. But the honest true, it works NICE & CLEAR…

I was playing around with trying to get my iphone speaker volume louder and my ringtones, but I wasn’t happy with the different changes on my “SystemSoundMaximunVolume.plist” so, I grabbed a needle and sticked it into every single tiny hold on the bottom left corner of the iPhone. I think it was dirty in there or something because now this **** is EXACTLY how I wanted it since day one… LOUD!!! I really hope I didn’t mess up the speaker though.

Has anyone done this? maybe my speaker was dirty and it’s now cleaned up? or I have sticked the needle into the speaker without messing it up and it made some air ways and made it louder? whatever it is, I now love the speaker phone.

17.- Scrolling Safari
If you’re scrolling through Safari, the address bar comes with you, disappearing after the first few swipes. But no matter how far down you’ve scrolled, tapping the top of the screen (where the network and wireless icons are) will instantly rocket you back to the address bar.

If you haven’t been to a site with a drop-down search field (like the country chooser on Apple.com), go do so. Apple has even found a way to make that enjoyable.

18.- Drop-down menus are easy – and even fun – to navigate.
It may not seem so, but Apple’s virtual keyboard quietly adapts to each task it’s asked to perform. When typing an email address into your Address Book, for example, only pertinent characters appear – that is, a plus, hyphen and underscore. Plus, a “.com” key appears anchored next to the @ symbol and period. And when writing a contraction, the iPhone is smart enough to immediately switch back to the letter layout after the apostrophe is pressed. Let’s see a BlackBerry do that.

And there are other tricks, as well. As New York Times columnist David Pogue points out, if you don’t lift your finger when typing a punctuation mark, “incredibly, the ABC layout returns automatically.”

19.- URls sharing
Since there’s no ability to cut and paste, Apple has integrated email, Safari, and the iPhone, virtually eliminating the need for a clipboard. When I wanted to send the link of my blog to my wife, for example, a small Share button popped up in Safari, which created a new email and pasted the link into the body. Just hit the address bar to find it.

20.- Stopping incoming calls
To stop an incoming call from ringing, press the sleep / wake button. To send the call immediately to VoiceMail, press the sleep / wake button twice.

21.- Surfing Internet while talking
iPhone: You can get on the internet DURING a call! You can only do this if your connected to a WIFI network (it wont work via edge), just hit the home key and click on Safari. Now your surfing while talking! The person on the other end can’t hear the keyboard clicks either!

22.- How to make full screen contact pictures

1. browse to the contact and tap edit.
2. tap on the photo.
3. tap edit photo.
4. after it opens in fullscreen, tap set photo and save the contact.

23.- Keyboard: Shortcuts
The trick David Pogue mentions for entering a period (hold down the punctuation key and then slide to the period and release) will allow you to enter anything on the non-alpha keyboard and return to the alpha keyboard in one swipe.

24.-When typing a text message, hold your finger over the text field and it will enable a small magnifying glass that lets you move back and forward through text and spaces.

25.- To type in all caps, go to Settings>Keyboard and make sure ‘Enable Caps Lock’ is ON. Then when you’re typing a message, just double tap the cap key on the keyboard and it locks.

26.- If you are writing something and the iPhone flags a word as misspelled that you know is not misspelled, cancel the correction 3 times and the word will be put into the dictionary. If you write a lot, this feature is quite useful!

1. Type “welll” (3 L’s) and the iPhone will auto correct to “We’ll”

2. Type “Helll” (3 L’s) and the iPhone will auto correct to “He’ll”

3. Type “itsa” and the iPhone will auto correct to “It’s”

4. Type “weree” (2 E’s) and the iPhone will auto correct to “We’re”

(In general, repeating the last letter will tell us its a contraction. The “itsa” is an exception since it could go either way. Think “it’s a…” No need for jumping over to the secondary keyboard at all for the apostrophe.

27.- Google Maps
Typing in the three letter airport code while in maps will bring the airport up on the map. So if you are trying to view a map of say Renton, WA. Typing SEA (or sea) will bring up the Seattle airport. It’s relatively quick to zoom out, recenter over Renton, and zoom in again. It seems to recognize all primary and secondary US airports and many overseas airports as well.

28.- Tapping on the address in your contacts opens it up in Google maps.

29.- A two finger tap in google maps zooms out. this doesn’t really work anywhere else. one finger tap to zoom in, two to zoom out.

30.- Safari Tricks
When you’ve scrolled down to the bottom of a page, and you want to go back to the top- just tap on the top bar of the phone (where the Rogers or Fido and the time is) and the page jumps right back up to the beginning

31.- To email a page to someone tap on the address bar. The Share button on the top left will create a message for you!

32.- Page down. When not using a zoomed-in display, double-tap towards the bottom of the screen. The page will re-center around your tap. Make sure not to tap a link!

33.- Zoom onto a single picture. Double-tapping images in Safari zooms them to fit your iPhone display. If the picture is linked to a URL, this can prove a little tricky but it works great for non-linked images. Double-tap again to return to the unzoomed display.

34.- Zoom a column. You can zoom text columns as well as pictures. Double-tap on the column to fit it to the display. Double-tap again to return out of the zoom. Not only does Safari zoom block-quoted text independently of regular text but if you move your finger after the first double-tap-to-fit, it interprets the next double-tap as a re-center page command rather than a return-to-previous-zoom. Smart.

35.- Stopping a scroll. After flicking a page to get it to scroll, you can tap the page at any time to stop that movement. Don’t forget, you can also manually drag the screen display to reset the part you’re viewing.

36.- You can type a website address without adding the ‘.com’ just like on Safari on a Mac.

37.- Examining the URL. To peek at a link’s destination, touch and hold the link for a few seconds. You can also do this with images to see if they are linked. If a link appears and you don’t want to activate it, just slide your finger away until the destination text disappears.

38.- Well just point your iPhone browser to a Video on google video and choose download for iPod/PSP and you can watch it right there in safari. This also shows that you can also watch videos in the vertical position not just landscape.

39.- Set up a bookmark at the top of Safari’s list (just below History, which can’t be moved) that points to “about:blank” (In fact “about:ANYTHING” works just as well, I’m not sure if there’s some keyword I can put in to get anything special.) Anyway, I use the bookmark to switch to a blank page once I’m done browsing.

Nobody knows how to play with the media more than Apple does, even when a bad news can damage their profits Apple turns it into good news and generate more positive buzz than bad.

Take for example the recently launched iPhone 3G, with bigger demand than devices to supply the impressive costumers reception for the new smartphone, but was it badly planned by Apple or a maneuver to generate buzz?

I believe it is a PR and Marketing Stunt, let me show you my reasons:

1. All the major iPhone resellers were acepting preorder for the new iPhone and some of them were reporting complete sold out days before the launch. With this information on hand, Apple could supply more iPhone to those resellers that were selling the device in a faster pace, but not.

2. O2 reported that was receiving 13,000 orders per second. O2 reported that they were receiving 13,000 pre orders of the new iPhone 3G days before the launch and with this information on hand Apple let the shortage take control of the media.

3. Reports that Apple was hiring people to stay in line to make the launch crowded. This is just a rumor and nobody has come forward to tell if it was or wasn’t true.

4. There is not buzz If Apple just delivers the iPhone as normal. People buys, Apple sells, thiere is nothing to write about it, instead of if thousands of angry fans were left in the cold lines waiting for their iPhones, could generate more positive news, because it says that the demand is higher than anticipated, even if Apple just has a few thousand iPhone to sell, nobody will really know how many were available, just Apple.

5. 450k or 1M, it depends on who you ask
The next monday after the iPhone launch Apple reported an impressive and massive sale of 1 million iPhones, but analysts are refuting Apple because Apple is counting delivered iPhone as sold and those iPhone must be bought by the costumer to be considered sold. Some analysts estimate the weekend sale as 450k, Apple claims 1 millions. Do the math. iPhone 3G were only sold with activation, so if you buy one you have to activate it where you buy it.

6. Bad publicity could mean good publicity. In the clearer evidence that bad publicity always generates more good publicity than we really could understand, here is the search results of some phrases associated with the iPhone 3G launch:

If you search on Google for:
1. iPhone 3g excellent product, you will receive 253,000 responses
2. Apple 1 million iphone 3g sold, you will receive 1,140,000 responses
3. iPhone 3g faster network, you will receive 429,000 responses
4. iPhone 3G shortage, you will receive 622,000 responses
5. iPhone 3g sold out, you will receive 745,000 responses
6. iPhone 3G problems, you will receive 45,400,000 responses
7. iPhone 3g problems, you will receive 250,000,000 responses

Now if you sum the first 4 searches that said good things about the product you won’t get nothing near the the 6 search, Apple knows it and these numbers demonstrate that a Controlled Damage can help generate a lot of buzz worldwide.

Apple TV has come from a hobby project of Apple to a very solid option with the 2.0 release, but why does not Apple design a whole new TV Operating System?

An OS that give you more control of your watching experience, animation between channels, program bookmarks, review sharing, recommendation and On Demand information (weather, transit, wall street) via widgets. Ok, I know that there are channels that provide that kind of information, but you must spend minutes surfing for them and it is not possible to have this information instantly, a widget system can solve it.

What we need is a TV with brain, hard disc, wireless transmission, automatic download of your favorite Youtube clips, a TV that understands how we interact with information and keeps learning about our habits, a TV that knows when there is nobody watching it and automatically dimm itsel.

A combination of IPTV+Mac OS X+Coverflow, something unique, I know that this kind of monster needs dedication, hardware and software and thousand of man/hours, but Apple has the ability to do marvel, the Mac, the ipod, the iphone and whatever is in the pipeline shows us that when Steve puts his heart on something, it works.

Imagine a 30″ Apple designed LCD TV with remote ipod touch and iphone connection, wireless internet connection, Coverflow for channel surfing, W for Widget with ready to use information, Parental control, Google Map, automatic Channel bookmark based on your previous selection of tags or topics, iphoto and imovie ready (wirelessly), automatic computer syncing, Channel and program Reviews, and Music tagging for later download on itunes.

A networked TV that can help us monitor what our children watch and when, that share wirelessly in multiple media what is being shown on TV, imagine having a Server based TV that recharge your favorites programs, movies and news to your ipod or iphone.

Apple is entitled to start the next TV Revolution, today is not about content, it is how you show the content. Tivo and Sony represent big challenges to Apple, they haven’t reached the panacea of their hardware evolution and Apple with its Mighty Touch of sensibility and detail can excel them in 2 more years or less.

Let’s wait for Apple TV evolution hoping that somebody in Apple is being thinking about the next Big Thing for this new Hobby called Apple TV.

Apple marketing in the US and in other countries is a phenomenon, it has driven mass adoption and changed users perception about the mac with the “I am, I am a PC”; the iPod campaign was the bigger for a single mac product, but when it comes to sponsoring, Apple has failed to make the same kind of buzz for other products and missed bigger sponsoring events like the Major Leagues Baseball, F1, the Olympics or NASCAR.

Sponsoring the US Olympic Team or providing an iPhone designed with the flag of the country where Apple is selling it could has been the bigger advertising event for the iPhone brand and will place it at the higher spot of worldwide marketing.

This kind of event happen every four years and it is worth the investment, million of people worldwide will watch it, comment it, record it and put it online for others people to see any given discipline and if Apple negotiate a logo placement with any tv network or the Olympic committee this would be a huge success for the Apple marketing team.

Another example is the X-Games where Apple can be the most prominent sponsor, it gives more cool factor to Apple because the X-Games young people appeal and worldwide distribution. This is the cooler sport event with million of fans and potential mac users. The X-Games is owned by ESPN, which is a Disney company brand. Got it?

And here the most anticipated sport event that could drive more and more people to the mac: The NASCAR. NASCAR sponsorship for Apple would be heaven on Earth because it could overlap Apple already fanatic costumers with the hottest and most colorful car racing event. It is not a matter of who win the race, it is the Apple logo placement in front of million of people. This sponsorship or product placement must be for the non ipod-iphone products.

If to recapture or conquest converts to the mac is a matter, then advertising in crowded events should be a mandatory for Apple, the Desktop war is happening now and to guarantee more and more young and not so young costumers to the mac Apple must invest in hardcore marketing, Nascar and the X-Games are cooler events and could generate more buzz for the investment.

Apple is having a momentum with the introduction of the iPhone 3G and while the other Apple businesses are doing quite good we haven’t seen any major change in form or any upgrade to the mac business platform.

Apple has been so stressed with the iPhone that the mac platform has been left in the cold, for more than 5 years we been using the same form-factor in the G5 and now with the MacPro, nothing, I mean, nothing has been added cosmetically to guarantee more sales nor any marketing material or tv ads that show us the power of the MacPro. Nada.

The iMac has suffered a minor redesign, but the same form is keeped and the mac mini is still in the product pipeline, but with the same design.

The Apple Cinena is frozen in new features and new size, Apple hasn’t delivered any major color or form change to this product with more than 3 years with the same form-factor.

Apple has been selling tons and tons of macs every quarter, but the design has been frozen while we have seen some good designs in monitors from Dell and some features added to every pc, now all PC comes with Blu-Ray, faster and bigger hard drive, better memory cards and all of them oriented to hardcore gamers, some of these features can be added to the MacPro at extra charge while the PCs have them standard.

The idea is that there is not need to change something that is profitable, of course Not, but Apple risked itself changing the iPod Nano design even when the Nano was the hottest seller. There is not other choice, if you want to buy a mac, it got to be a MacPro or an iMac and nothing else and with this situation you can’t call Popular to any mac because the selection is mandatory.

Funambol Inc. today announced the availability of its new free Funambol plug-in for the iPhone. The Funambol plug-in enables users to easily and freely sync their address book from an older phone to an iPhone 3G over-the-air. It also enables users of the iPhone 3G (as well as original iPhones and iPod Touches that have been upgraded to 2.0) to wirelessly back up their contacts for free, and to easily keep their contacts in sync with popular webmail systems, and email clients such as Outlook and Thunderbird.

The free plug-in, which was listed as a top 20 cool third party app for the iPhone 3G by IDG News Service, can be immediately downloaded from the Apple App Store, from its Productivity section.

“One of the first things that iPhone 3G users want is contacts on their phone and they don’t want to type them in,” said Fabrizio Capobianco, Funambol CEO. “The Funambol plug-in makes it really easy to migrate contacts from an older phone, webmail system or email client. Plus it freely backs up contacts to a server without a cable. It is easy to see why the Funambol plug-in was just named as one of the top 20 third party iPhone apps.”

Yesterday launch of the iPhone 3G demonstrated that Apple didn’t anticipate how big this second coming would be and that if the first version became a sensational hit, this next version will be even bigger than Apple itself.

This is the first time in mobile history that an upgrade of any cell phone resulted in an instant megahit worldwide and even Nokia hasn’t enjoyed the same level of costumers commitment with their products. Apple is setting the bar too higher even for them and this could force them to renew its strategy faster to stay ahead of Apple itself.

iPhone killers have come and gone and none of them have fill the space left by Apple with the original iPhone, we were all arguing about Apple decision to go with Edge instead of 3G technology, the lack of copy and paste and even the luxury price, now all those rants and rave didn’t prove to be a factor taken into account for millions of people buying the first generation.

But at the same time this new iPhone became a hit for Apple some problems started to flow, mobileme service suffered some glitches and was pull back, activation at the Apple Store didn’t work properly for thousand of new iPhone 3G users and out of stock stores that didn’t anticipate this kind of success for the second coming of the iPhone.

Designed to provide low-priced international calls for Apple iPhone users worldwide, Truphone for the iPhone hit Apple’s App Store today. The application, which enables mobile internet calls using the iPhone’s Wi-Fi capability, is available to download initially free of charge.

Making a call using Truphone for the iPhone follows precisely the normal procedure: a single touch to open the dialer, dial the number or choose from the iPhone’s own address book, and a touch to start the call.

Truphone for the iPhone is a focused, fast and ‘lightweight’ application, in line with the type of applications Apple users expect. Complying with iPhone and Apple user interface standards, the application is a native Voice over IP client running on normal, unmodified iPhones and was developed from the ground up using Apple’s Software Developer Kit.

James Tagg, Truphone’s CEO, said: “Our mission with Truphone for the iPhone was to provide better value international calls for regular iPhone users, whether they’re calling internationally or avoiding roaming charges when making calls from abroad. Since there’s no risk involved – no monthly subscriptions or other charges – we hope it will be the obvious application for smart iPhone users to use for their international calls.

“It is the real deal: a native VoIP client for the iPhone, developed with Apple’s own SDK. There are millions of iPhones in circulation, all with an identical operating system – it’s a terrific market opportunity,” he added.

Truphone’s CTO and project leader Alistair Campbell said: “We set out to create an application that is as Apple-like as possible: fast, lightweight and focused. That’s what we’ve done and it works brilliantly, exactly like a seasoned Apple-user would expect.”

When making a Truphone call from the iPhone, the caller ID that is presented is that of the iPhone’s SIM card, enabling the recipient easily to return a call.

The clock is ticking and the launch day for the new iPhone 3G is coming faster, people are making lines in front of some Apple Store waiting to get their hands on the shiny gadget.

Expect this week some stupid announcements from Apple’s rivals, price reduction, introduction of new models that aren’t ready to ship in 6 months, but the idea is to derail the Apple’s launch. In the past, even Microsoft used this tactic to take the media attention from Apple.

News that Rogers was punished by Apple, prompted major reviews of other carriers Plan prices that were to hurt their customers’ pockets and at the same time turn some iphone customers to others cheapers mobile phone with better voice and data plan price.

This week will be slow as we are desperate to have this upgraded version and the thousand new applications that the AppStore will bring, we just hope that there aren’t any strong weather news, plane crashing, ship wrecking or any killing spree news that may take the shine to this friday event.

The iPod Touch is a nice product, a touch screen, an easy to follow navegation system, a good piece of hardware marvel, but it is not an iPod nor an iPhone and the reasons for its introduction are unknown.

Let’s put it straight:
If your primary need is to listen music, jog and travel light, then the ipod touch is not what you need. Listen music is not the ipod touch principal function, it is very difficult to change from song to song without looking to the device and holding it in your hands is another story. It is made to be seen and the navegation when compare with the ipod is a disaster. Ok, we all like the touchscreen, but try to run 1 mile and at the same time try changing just ONE song… it it impossible. With the original ipod it is a matter of moving your fingers around and done. Touchscreen is just one thing and usability is other. You can run, but you can’t hide it.

Capacity
While the main feature of the ipods have been music playing and recently, videos and movies playing, the ipod touch brings only a fraction of excitement, it has just 32 gigabytes for $499 compare to the ipod Classic 160GB for $350. While you won’t be able to enjoy 20 thousand songs at once, now that you have an ipod why not fill it up with tones of music?

iPod Touch is not an iPhone
Another little drawback for the iPod Touch is that it is an iPhone without the phone, it is a nice Portable Media Player and if I were in charge of the iPod Touch production (with my respect for all of them) I will make bigger the screen and create another device with the iPod features but intended to Movie playing, strip the ipod name out and market it as the most versatile PMP on the market, touchscreen, gps, 10 hours of movies and video playing and 24 hours of music playing, wireless broadcast for your wireless speakers and AppleTV and automatic mac and pc syncing (wireless too).

For years Apple has been fighting for its place in the Personal Computer market, showing excellent and elegants easy to use computers and softwares that go beyond expectation with affordable solutions for everybody, but none of this has helped the mac gains more marketshare than the iTunes-iPod duo.

The iPod placed Apple in the hands of millions of people, but what made this a successful is not only the iPod, it is itunes, which provides the backend to the ipod, syncing your music library, your pictures, calendar, ipod games, movie sale and rental, podcasts and K-12 and universities material.

Itunes has become the most important piece of software for Apple, even bigger than Mac OS X right now, because it drives more people to the mac platform than any other application, it works so flawlessly and elegant, it is the center of Apple present and future, everything is done through iTunes.

It connects millions of ipod users everyday, charging, syncing, moving and playing billions of music tracks surpassing all other players together. Itunes provides podcasts, movies and videos, higher education material for everybody and a new meaning to Software Development.

Quicktime was considered Apple’s Trojan Horse, the one that will drive millions of PC users willing to change from their traditional and tortuous Windows life to the mac, but was itunes the Jewel from Apple that helped the ipod and now the iphone have a safe place at Windows’ harbor. Itunes has been more than a Trojan Horse, it is Apple demonstration to everybody that this time is for real and that Apple won’t take any hostages, this time the killing will be in Microsoft’s own turf.

And what makes the situation even worse for rivals is that there is not possible replacement for itunes in the industry, we have seen popular offers come and go, Winamp was the user’s choice for years, but it has been buried on time, Windows Media Player and Playforsure is a subject in any Computer Economy Class in any univesity and Real has been losing market and ideas, none of them has come with a better offer in features and usability and worse, none of them have been able to replicate the ipod-itunes experience.

Pystar has been playing with fire offering pcs loaded with Mac OS X, something we thought was impossible and out of any possibility.

The entire mac community has been waiting for a strong Apple respond to Psystar, but nothing has been spotted and Psystar is selling itself as “The Smart Alternative to an Apple”, in direct competetion with Apple and using Apple’s tools.

Sooner than later Apple will have to respond, because Psytar is now offering Openserv, a rack based server loaded with Mac OS X Server (10 clients pack) for US$500 and the unlimited clients for US$1,025.

It is a good thing to have a cheaper Mac OS X alternative, but you can bet all your money that this lawsuit is just a storm waiting to happen and shareholders will force Apple to do so, while Apple profits selling copy of Mac OS X we can’t forget that Apple is a computer maker and their software business is complementary and now Psystar selling cheaper boxes loaded with their tools could make some damages to Apple bank account. In the past, Apple cut clone licensees because of that.

Apple wants to reach a bigger audience, AT&T can help, but in the end a two year contract will give you the fresh new 3G iphone for a price. Nothing is free on earth.

No Replaceable Batteries
I really don’t understand the reasons for not providing a replaceable battery iphone, but this is Steve Jobs, he is always running riding the horses.

No Flash
For Steve Jobs Adobe’s Flash is not ready for primetime on the iPhone and he is trying not to depend on Adobe for multimedia-rich websites on the iphone, instead of pushing SproutCore. In the other hand, Adobe is testing Flash at full speed.

No Video Recording
Video recording is a plus and all of my friends criticize the iphone because its lack of video features. Apple is a video hardware and software supplier company and there is not reason on earth for Apple not to inlcude a small video application that get synced with iMovie or Quicktime.

No Cut and Paste
Again, cut and paste has been in all Apple OSes since day one and you bet that the Os has this features turned off on purpose, maybe you don’t need it for make a phone call, but for text rich email and websites, text is ultra neccesary.

No Multimedia Messaging Service
Multimedia is the heart of Apple and this is a shame that the iPhone lacks of MMS. Come on Apple.

No Voice Dialing
Again and again, Voice recognition is one of Mac OS X advantages over rivals, it works perfectly and in mobile phone voice dialing is almost standards in every smartphone and in not so smart phones. The reason for the iPhone to lack in Voice Dialing is something that we won’t ever know, but sooner than later this feature will be added.

Brian has some good points with his article and while the iPhone is something totally different from other phones, it is always important to provide those good features that come standards in others.

After more than 20 differents iphone killers launched nobody has figured out the way to beat the iphone, why? Because design is not always what people look for. The iphone rest in the laurels won by the ipod, the ipod made the way for Apple to show how to make small devices that work and bring some kind of satisfaction. Now that we have tested the ipod, jumped, ran and enjoyed it we move to the next level, the iphone.

While the iphone is Revolutionary, the most important part in is that it works the same way the ipod does, not hassle, transparent and ist main goal is to provide the easier to use experience and that was guaranteed with the ipod and is now with the iphone. It is not always design, it is a combination of all factors working together to make your phone life easier.

So if you take the new Samsung Instinct for example: A nice looking, full of features, affordable, but with two things against it, it doesn’t work with iTunes, the backend that provides the most easier to use computer-to-phone experience and it LOOKS like an iphone.

The iTunes part will be forgiven, but that a new phone with the features of the Samsung Instinct looks like an iPhone is something that tells more than you can imagine, they are trying to sell YOU a phone that looks like the one (iphone) they say is inferior, come on Samsung. Why not design something BETTER looking? Samsung is a mobile monster, they can design whatever and make it a marvel, but please stop telling us that your phones are better and end up designing them like your rivals.

By now none of the iphone killers has matched the iphone with a design that goes beyond our expectations, please give us something totally different, so we can compare them, not an iphone look-alike with more features.

Day by day the gap between the iphone and its killers is getting bigger, Apple is transforming it in a Platform, something that will make more difficult to match because of the new applications, games, business oriented solutions, internet stuff and a richer user experience that will take the market by storm positioning the iphone in the face of millions.

Sprint marketing strategy is going out for the features missing in the iPhone providing a realtime comparison between the iPhone and the new Samsung Instinct, you wouldn’t expect the iphone to beat the Instinct on its own comparison. They are comparing the Instinct with features that the iPhone lacks.

Faster Internet
Of course the iPhone is beaten down with this Sprint comparison, Sprint doesn’t provide any information regarding what kind of net connection are they using in both phone. You should start doing your own research.

Live TV
Again, Live TV is not an iPhone feature, it is an advantage for the Instinct, but they insists.

GPS
The actual iPhone doesn’t have GPS and it uses Wifi and Cellular tower locations. But the new iPhone 3G is another thing, so don’t expect Sprint to compare both phones when the 3G version is out.

Video Shooting
The iPhone doesn’t have video capture capability and the closer thing is photo shooting, Apple hasn’t provided a roadmap for this feature.

Over the Air Music Download
Again, the iPhone music service is provided through iTunes and not by the Carriers (AT&T, Sprint, etc.), so there is not over the air itunes store, songs on the iPhone must be bought using wifi.

Now that Apple is officially trying to conquer the enterprise sector and that the iphone 3G will be packed with business oriented features why not go further and replace the last hurdles remaining creating an aggresive business strategy:

1. Trade your Blackberry.
Go directly to every IT department that depends on Blackberry and provide them with a special trade in program, Apple will replace any Blackberry for a iPhone 3G and 1 year of MobileMe.com Service.

2. Buy One iPhone at your IT department and receive a second one half the price.
This will acelerate in mass the adoption of the iPhone, Apple is doing something similar for Education giving one ipod touch for every laptop bought. See it here.

3. Alliance, alliance, alliance.
If you buy a BMW, get an iPhone 3G half the price. It will place the iphone 3G everywhere.

4. Business Traveling?
Apple will lend you an iPhone 3G in your next Los Angeles-New York business trip.

5.Load the iPhone business ready applications and tools.
Provide the iPhone 3G fully loaded with all the most useful business applications available, so it is ready to work from the begining, also include an One Buttom Delete feature to erase it completely.

6. License some business books and loaded into the iPhone 3G
Business people tend to be educated, why not provide them with the better business books availables on the market, load them in PDF or Audiobooks.

7. Change the iPhone 3G name.
While the iPhone 3G name will help capture a bigger audience, its name is not business oriented, a better and representative name would be: iPhone Business 3G, this name sents a clearer message.

While these ideas don’t guarantee an automatic success, they will help cement Apple business strategy, because sometimes we got to go outside and do more than needed to keep our clients happier, in the end it will means more iPhone sales and that is what Apple is looking. If people know that Apple is serious about business then they will start jumping ships.

Firefox is back with a vengeance, this time the fight is for real and the promise is that this new version is 3 times faster than previous one, making it lighter and more mac friendly and at the same time giving some punches to Safari.

Mozilla cried foul when Apple pushed Safari for Windows as an iTunes Update, a strategy that put Safari in the face of thousand iTunes users that have fallen in love with the ipod, this move received raw criticism from Mozilla Ceo, John Lilly, who qualified it as a threat to web security. It seems that Apple learned something from Microsoft and is using it with Windows users.

While Internet Explorer is still the king of the hill because its default marriage with Windows, Firefox has been gaining marketshare at its expense, providing more features, solid crash-proof environment and faster browsing, but if Apple can translate its Halo Effect to Safari, bringing million of ipod/iphone users to the new browser, then Firefox fight will be in two front, trying to grab marketshare from IE in the first place and trying to maintain it while fighting with Apple’s Safari.

True to be told: In my experience Firefox 3 is faster in Java related stuff on mac, looks more mac friendly and provides thousands of add-ons that make it more useful, Safari browsing experience is more pleasant in both platform, but Firefox 3.0 is getting closer to provide the same level of browsing satisfaction.

Check the details: There are only few visible differences between Safari (up) and Firefox 3 (down). Firefox now looks more like a real mac application.

There is not doubt that Firefox 3.0 will give Microsoft an even bigger headache, it is clean, faster, lighter, professional looking and is out to take the browser war to a new level. The only thing I don’t like is the emboss effect applied to the links bar, it gives a sensation of rupture, that there is other window below or that this is the upper side of the windows, it is not pleasant. While Firefox 3 doesn’t represent a real threat for Apple, this update must be a wake up call, they are doing their homework and they will do whatever it takes to become the default browser of choice on every platform, on the mac side there is much to do. Keep the good work.

AppleTV has been a hobby project for Apple and there is not doubt that there’s something big waiting to happen, but as usual, nobody really knows what’s the future for this little device, it could end up being an attempt to enter a market that Apple later could decide isn’t sustainable, cutting down the project.

AppleTV was suppose to be the internet tv, youtube for our digital TVs, but Apple has been adding features sooooo slooow that I really don’t know where is this project going… AppleTV lacks the most common features, it can’t record, play or pause live tv and it won’t for a long time because Apple is the main seller of recorded TV programs. Dual standard here, so Apple will always check which business is more profitable and add features to the AppleTV without alienating its TV Programs Download at iTunes and because there is not business in let people Record-Play-Pause live tv with AppleTV when your main source of money comes from selling those same programs AppleTV will record.

If I were to make a decision about AppleTV, this will be:

1.- Open AppleTV to third party developers.
Let everyone adds whatever they can to the device.

2. Make it runs all video codecs available.
More codecs more people willing to buy AppleTV.

3. License WMV and RealPlayer video technologies.
Apple did it with Exchange for the iPhone, why not with WMV or Realplayer.

4. Put some games on it.
License some Nintendo, Sega and Sony arcade games and put them on the hard drive ready to rumble.

5. Make a Black version.
There are more black electronic appliances than white, so Black is the new white.

AppleTV will be evolving slowly until Apple consider it profitable enough to dedicate some time tweaking and selling it like it should, it is a great hobby device, cute and small, but if Apple wants to stay on the market, more features are needed and faster.

With a thousand eyes watching, Apple has unveiled the long-awaited second generation of its iPhone at the annual developers’ conference (WWDC2008) in San Francisco on June 9.

With support for faster 3G wireless networks, the new iPhone has attracted fervent interest from consumers, and will undoubtedly increase the Corporation’s degree of internationalization. In the past three years, Apple’s Local market has had 48% share of its whole sales, European market 22% compared.

Expanding brand and product lines as well as broadening the international market, analysts believe that if Apple can keep these three plates
spinning, it will successfully go global. Apple’s iPod mainly sells at home at present, with 60-70% of them sold through retail establishments, 70-80% of which are mainly located in the U.S.

However, global demand for the new iPhone is extremely strong. In those markets which are not officially authorized by Apple, consumers started to get iPhones unlocked. According to the market research firm Net
Applications, the unlocked Apple iPhone will prevail in almost every country in the world, and China’s sales on unlocked iPhones will reach
500,000.

There is no doubt that consumer desire is to make Apple iPhone easily enter these new markets. Apple is changing the rules of the game as well by increasing the number of operators to cooperate in some areas. In Italy, Egypt and Switzerland, consumers have more choices. In addition, Apple has become increasingly flexible on the revenue-sharing mechanism, and is willing to cut income sharing to achieve non-unique modes of cooperation.

Apple will also make great effort in China market. Tootoo.com, the global leading B2B search engine, analyses that China has become the world’s largest consumer of mobile phones, and has more mobile phone users than any other country. To seize the numerous Chinese consumers, Apple is expected to set up its first franchised store in Beijing during the Olympic Games, as well as work together with China’s largest mobile operators actively for cooperation. Although the Cooperative Agreements has not yet been reached, the iPhone engine will undoubtedly quickly start for the multiple streams of income as soon as Apple gains a firm foothold in the Chinese market.

This past WWDC Apple stock price suffered the first Health Review that hammered down all the good news about the 3G iPhone, Mobileme features and hundred of applications that will rock the iphone way to the enterprise, but instead of receiving these news as a reason to the price of Apple share goes up, it went down because Steve Jobs ill-looking face could represent something bad to Apple. Please………….. those are two different things, the stock price couldn’t be affected for something that nobody knows for sure, there is not press release telling us what is suffering, why the stock has to be punished this way?

I’m not an analyst and I won’t ever be one, but I have read some reports about things that analysts don’t understand or have never seen, and even analysis credited to companies or analysts that have never ever writen about Apple. But of course this is nothing new, you could check by yourself that there is not a major Apple announcement that hasn’t suffered this kind of analyst abuse or as they call it “correction”.

Steve is sick, so what? It is a permanent death threat on us and nobody could change it, but it is far from hammer a company that is doing a tremendous job bringing corporate tools, new products and features that nobody can rival, those are two different things, Steve can take a month off and everything is SO STEVE at Apple that nobody will note his absent at work.

Remember that the some analysts are always guessing about Apple, so do we, but the difference is that they get paid for this guessing, some of them received believable information, but others try (with some kind of Magic Balls) to understand what is inside Apple strategy, even the most Apple centric analysts don’t have a clue about it, missing and telling investors one thing when what really happen is the opposite.

Wall Street needs a regulatory news agency that check every information divulged by those so called analysts and then make the right comparison, if you as an analyst missed 3 targets and put people money at risk, you should be expelled from being an analyst.

Apple is not perfect but there are doing an excellent job fine tuning its products, making them more people and corporate friendly and it deserve recognition by everybody in the industry, there is not a Samsung Killer category or Nokia Killer category, just an iPhone killer and it wasn’t awarded, it was earned it by Apple creating the most out of this world mobile phone and this is what analyst should take in consideration.

Apple entering into the Video Post-Production business with Final Cut Pro has been a tremendous success, its video marketshare is growing every quarter and there are more FCP professionals than never before, almost every small, medium and big production house has FCP as a affordable alternative to Non Linear Editing System that require a bigger investment.

With FCP Apple give us a package that is easier to use, is getting better every new version and is becoming the stardard in video post-production, FCP is going to be in not more than 3 years to video what mac has been for graphic design, the de facto standard that let us talks the same language while provide us an excellent platform to work with.

When Adobe jumped ship and closed its Adobe Premiere application for the mac and Avid received an investment from Microsoft cutting down the mac version of any Avid applications, Apple avoided its dependence of others on the video production, buying from Macromedia the codes of what we know as Final Cut Pro, eventually, Adobe Premiere and Avid’s applications are on the mac again, but the damage is already done, FCP has taken the market by storm.

There is not chance for Avid to reconquer the mac market without providing a new and more versatile (and affordable of course) alternative to Final Cut Pro, Hollywood is falling in love with FCP and it could mean more problems for Adobe Premiere and Avid if they are trying to maintain its dominance on the vide post-production business.

Today the WWDC is almost reaching its end and we haven’t seen any news announcement from Adobe regarding Flash development for the iphone. Whatever happened is very strange because this is the event where Adobe could get more buzz if anything from them was shown. Adobe and Apple are having a matrimonial rupture, when they are not fighting, they are collaborating killing bugs on their applications.

Maybe Adobe is holding off the announcement for a more Adobe Centric Event or they are more concentrated in its new Adobe Media Player or its recently launched Acrobat Portal. Anyway the iPhone hasn’t needed Flash to bright and while I consider it a Plus, it seems that is not in Apple interest to help Adodbe port it to their Mobile Plaftorm. Let’s hope for a day when the iPhone Flashes in Adobe’s eyes.

Adobe can port all its mobile development platform to the iPhone and become the premier supplier of Enterprise Mobile Applications, rich AIR applications from Adobe can make even more appealing to business customers worldwide, doing so, both Apple and Adobe can monetize the device’s applications.

Now that the iPhone is turning itself in a real threat to PSP and Nintendo DS, Apple should seriously consider entering into the full time game development to provide amazing games to the new mobile gaming platform.

To become a mobile game developer Apple should consider to two different approaches:

1. Create a Mobile Gaming Division
It’s not an easy task to find good game programmers grazing on the pasture. All major game developers are hunting down every creative game designer available and only if Apple creates an aggressive hiring strategy that conquers employees from gaming firms offering a lucrative salary.

Game developers are like young children, they are passionate about their projects and Apple should create a totally different environment to those new creative minds, nothing too difficult for Apple, but different from Apple’s mantra.

2. Create a Joint Venture with Sega and Pangea
Sega is a well known game developer and its looking to expand its mobile gaming development, so Apple can inject Sega fresh cash needed to buy some licensees and create new gaming technologies while Sega can supply Apple the most amazing gaming experience, turning this new gaming platform into the most profitable one.

In the other hand is Pangeasoft, a small gaming developer firm, specialized in Mac games that has demonstrated strong skills developing joyful children games.

With Pangeasoft Apple can create a gaming division aimed at young children with the already known Pangea characters.  It is a real plus for Apple to have Pangeasoft, they are passionate and committed mac game developers.

I believe that the better option for Apple is to invest or buy Sega or Pangeasoft, those companies are ready to create amazing and creative projects.

Integration, integration, integration. This year WWDC is about business and Integration and there is not doubt that the major announcement was Mobile Me (because we already knew all the evolutionary new features of the iPhone). With Mobile Me, Apple provide an universal syncronization service that will save all your information (data, video, images, documents) on the cloud and when you are ready to use download it to your iphone or mac or windows laptop, but what is the most compelling feature of Mobile Me is how it handles the integration. Sync your favorites and lets Mobile Me pushes information to all your sources.

An integration lesson to Google and Microsoft
Mobile Me is a hard lesson for Google, because Google provides the same services of Mobile Me, but those services lack integration between them making them an unpleasant experience for some. Google Calendar has nothing to do with Gmail and Picasa or Youtube, none of them provide a real and easy integration. All are different services under one umbrella.

But watch closely, Google is the one to replicate this kind of integration, they have the man power, a vast internet experience and a mobile platform (Android) that they need desperately to put on the road, so mobile integration will be the next focus for some net developers.

Microsoft in the other hand is still trying to understand the internet, shutting down services that were online only to compete with Google, so integration could be on their track, but how they implement it would be the most important thing, Microsoft has the pocket to buy any startup that provide any interesting net ready application.

Just wait for the next major overhaul to those internet services for us to enjoy. Long live Android and Windows Mobile.

For the first time, in my life as a mac user, Apple puts its pants on and goes to hunt. Everytime a new upgrade of any Apple product, there is an automatic price reduction, but this time is totally different, Apple is on a mission, not just to sell 10 million iphones this year, but to posititon the iphone as the premier mobile platform, even if they (Apple) have to shake the devil’s hands.

The business orientation of this new upgrade and the price adjustment will put some pression to rivals, those that were creating new products with more and more features, but in the end its products were not more than a iphone copy, now the war is moved to new ground, price vs features and Apple has the strong lead again, but know the iphone is more than just an iphone, it is a complete platform that provides excellent features for Mobile users, Hardcore Gamers and Business People, plus and iPod.

Can RIM turns its business oriented Blackberry brand into a gaming platform and at the same time approaches Businesses with more and more feature ready solutions? Or can they have a product that compete with the iphone in every aspect? The long answer is not, it is a hard task to bring a complete solution that fits everybody and Apple is doing it the right way, good product, good price strategy, excellent features, a better mobile experience with Mobile Me and what is more compelling is that they are providing all those features in Microsoft Holy Ground.

The iPhone 3G is out, with all the features we all knew and a new price, a price that will break down the last barrier between you and your iPhone and what is worse is the message Apple is sending to its rivals, some kind of “keep out my track, breaks not working”, the only phone that can beat the iphone is the iphone, got it?.

Even Die-Hard anti Mac, Paul Thurrot is recommending to buy the iPhone 3G in masses: “I’m almost unreservedly excited about the iPhone 3G and implore you to seriously consider making the switch. I’ll have more information about the iPhone 3G in the SuperSite Blog and in an upcoming MobileMe preview before my final review hits next month. But don’t wait on me: It’s time to start evaluating Apple’s innovative new smart phone. Finally, the iPhone really is the smart phone for the rest of us.”

It got to be good for somebody that is always looking for the baaad things in any Apple product to suddenly start recommending people to buy the iPhone and provide a real and positive review, could it really means what we all already know, it is really a good product.

To compete with rivals in the mobile business, Apple licensed Exchange from Microsoft and merged it with .mac, creating an ultra elegant, easy to use and features rich Mobile Me service that is almost impossible to avoid, the service is so interesting that Google and Microsoft have to been knocking they heads on the wall, there is nothing on the market that compete with the INTEGRATION of Mobile Me, in your iPhone, your PC, your Macbook and the net. I think that this week will be a hard week for some software analyst, trying to evalute and mimmick Mobile Me.

My hope is that some of them, I mean Google can create this integration with all of its services, it would be nice, I will keep dreaming.

At 2 days from WWDC and with fresh rumors about the new major update to Mac OS X (10.6 – Snow Leopard), here is a small list of some weird marketing ideas/events to promote Mac OS X to the masses.

The ideas/events should focus in bring a clearer idea of the advantages and capabilities of Mac OS X Leopard, here some ideas:

X Games:
Celebrated in February and March gathering worldwide attention because these games are oriented to a younger audience, the audience that follows extreme sports and buys Apple stuff. Apple should be the principal sponsor of this game selling an X Games based Ipod loaded with content from previous celebrations. ESPN is the producer, which is part of Disney and Steve Jobs is on Disney Board, so is not difficult to get content from them.

Paint with Leopard themes the 15,000 Taxis of New York for a Weekend:
Sound out of this world, but imagine a rush hour in New York and all the taxis dressed with Leopard colors advertising the next Operating System from Apple. On average you see publicity on cars from 5 seconds to 5 minutes but the picture will be much clearer if you are rounded with thousands of them. Each car has more than 750,000 impression monthly. Do the numbers.

Dress the Empire State with a BIG X:
Again what I am looking here is to put Mac OS X in front of everybody and Viral Marketing sometimes turns to be more creative and cheaper than traditional media. Apple should do whatever it takes to keep the Mac OS X momentum and put Leopard as a real alternative to the Vista flop.

Create an Leopard Cola:
Talk with Coca Cola or Pepsi to get a new cola based on Leopard and advertise it as a real product. This will correlates one of the most powerful consumer product, Coca Cola, with the most innovative system, Mac OS X. Brand recognition is very important, but Mac OS X is known within the Mac or Hackers Communities, Apple needs to let the regular Windows user knows about it.

Discover Leopard:
Buy air time in Discovery Channel creating a serie of 5 minute infomercials oriented to explain the advantages of the new system. See this, every 30 minutes, Discovery Channel broadcasts a technology based mini program that provides easy to use tips of what to do with Leopard.

Mac OS X Lite is a new version with limited functions and with a 30 days use period created to be given away to any pc user that buy an ipod or any ipod related stuff at Best Buys, Target or Circuit City. The idea is give users the possibility of test drive the new Mac OS X Leopard in its own machine (PC) parallel to Windows.

This is a Guerrilla marketing that will put OS X in front of millions of pc users that want to try the system, but consider the cost of the mac too expensive, the user will feel how smooth Leopard works compare to Windows and test drive any feature for a limited time (30 days), after the set date the system will be useless and will uninstall itself, in theory it may works without any problem, I have seen OS X running in intel PCs (PC Hardware) and it runs perfectly, even Final Cut Pro and Photoshop CS3, so Apple has the chance here.

Giving away a test version of Leopard will put Apple in the face of Millions new users and the possibility that some of them jump to the Mac bandwagon are bigger than Apple can achieve without promoting OS X the way it deserves.

There will be some hardware problems, nothing new to Windows users, but Apple can streamlined the installation process and create generic drivers to specific devices, Apple can, you know.

2. Hotmail:

Created by two formesr Apple employees, the two came up with the concept of a web-based database entitled Javasoft. While pursuing this idea, they subsequently realised the potential of a web-based e-mail system and thus decided to create one called HoTMaiL (the uppercase letters spelling out HTML – the language used to write the base of a webpage).In order to attract attention, the e-mail service was provided for free and revenue was obtained through the advertising on the website. Draper Fisher Ventures invested $300,000 on the project and the service was launched on July 4, 1996.

In less than six months, the website attracted over 1 million subscribers. As the interest in the web-based email provider increased, Microsoft eventually took notice and on December 30, 1997, Hotmail was sold to Microsoft for a reported sum of $400 million.

Created by Steve Perlman, a former Apple employee.

WebTV Networks, Inc was incorporated on June 30, 1995. Primary design criteria were ease of use and low cost.
WebTV Networks conserved their financial and managerial resources by providing licensed consumer electronics manufacturers with a reference design, allowing them to manufacture and market the client. Their profits were derived from operating the online service. They paid a fee to manufacturers for each new subscriber, allowing the manufacturers to sell the clients at a lower price.

By the spring of 1996 WebTV Networks employed approximately 70 people, many of whom were finishing their senior year at nearby Stanford University, or were former employees of either Apple Computer or General Magic. They were desperate to obtain business deals with either Sony or Philips in order to have a product on the store shelves for Christmas 1996. However, it wasn’t until they told Sony that there was a deal with Philips that Sony came back to the discussion and asked to be part of the platform. As a result, the company offered the complete package (service and box) on September 18, 1996 to the American market.

Perlman’s Company Rearden spun off Moxi, set top based TV Service used by Adelphia, Charter and Comcast, Moxi is now owned by Paul Allen’s company Digeo. Paul Allen was a Microsoft co-founder.

Founded by Jeff Hawkins and Donna Dubinsky, Donna Dubinsky worked for Apple and for Apple subsidiary Claris.

The inventors of the Pilot were Jeff Hawkins, Donna Dubinsky, and Ed Colligan, who founded Palm Computing. The original purpose of this company was to create handwriting recognition software for other devices, named Graffiti, but their research convinced them they could create better hardware as well. Before starting development of the Pilot, Hawkins is said to have carried a block of wood, the size of the potential pilot, in his pocket for a week. Palm was widely perceived to have benefited from the notable if ill-fated earlier attempts to create a popular handheld computing platform by Go Corporation and Apple Computer.

Now two ex-apple employees, Jonathan Rubinstein and Fred Anderson, will take control of Palm future.

5. BeOS:

Excellent and powerfull Operating System that almost replace NeXT in what is Mac OS X now.

Gassée worked for Hewlett Packard before becoming head of Apple France. Later, Apple’s CEO John Sculley personally appointed Gassée to Steve Jobs’ old position as head of Macintosh development. Gassée introduced several Macintosh products on-stage in the late 80s including the Macintosh Portable in 1989, and also the Macintosh IIfx. In his product introductions, he was often very comical.

In 1991 Gassée started a new venture, Be Inc., with the ambitious goal of creating an entire new computer platform, hardware and software, from the ground up. A number of Apple employees left with him, including Steve Sakoman, the developer of the Apple Newton. Be developed a new operating system, optimized for multiple CPUs and multithreaded applications, which became known simply as “the Be Operating system,” or BeOS.

As a mac addict, games have been our major problem, finding good action games is still a big problem, while there are some promises from games publishers to port good PC games to the mac, none of them have come to save our lazy time and having to wait 3 or more months for a game that is already on the market make me angry.

Friends and families have been sending me different games as gifts and all of them playable on the mac via Bootcamp, so is there any advantage to port hardcore games to the Mac when you can play them using Windows on your Mac? The short answer is NOT, there is not any advantage on making the same game twice, but in the other hand, it is possible that new technologies on Mac OS X provide some kind of unique experience and game publishers need them to have a mac hit… Something I found myself unprovable.

Are we done with good games for mac? Nope, there are two main problems for games on the mac, Steve Jobs and the iPhone. Jobs hasn’t been a game fanatic and games has never been a choice for Apple and the newer and bigger problem is the iPhone… Apple has invested almost all its time polishing the iPhone and everything that means iPhone, games for the iPhone, applications, utilities, and son on. The iPhone is the main priority, so games, as usual, aren’t on the list again.

Apple needs to invest some money into any game developer, Bungie, EA or whatever, to guarantee that We (newbies, medium or hardcore gamers) get the best of the best of games on the market, not the wet part of the cow….

By the time Tomb Raider Anniversary hit the Mac, I was ending it on my iMac running bootcamp, Eidos (the publisher of the game) didn’t loose any money, I bought the game for Windows and ended up playing it on the mac, one copy sold anyway.

I hope, and I have been praying God, Apple does something about games, gaming is part of the family, it reunites us every weeking to see your family members skills, to share, to rant about difficult levels, it is an important part of my family, we play together, so if Apple is trying to control the living room, there’s a spot empty in its strategy, Games.

Microsoft is reporting that certain bug in Apple Safari for Windows could mean security problems for Wndows users opening the door for attackers to run unauthorized softwares on a victim’s computer.

But the timing for this report is strange, this same week Net Applications reported that Safari has been gaining marketshare at Internet Explorer expense. Got it?

Apple should investigate if the problem is in its camp or provide a quick fix to this threat, but Microsoft should tell Apple where is the real threat, if it is at Safari, Apple must solve it inmediately or if it is on the Platform, then Microsoft should provide what’s needed, because a similar problem plague Internet Explorers for Windows XP and Vista and not fix is in place.

Rivals are not sincere, but both parties should agree and colaborate to fix this new security problem.

The company’s HSPA network is in the best position among American carriers to grow in line with customer demand, evolving to HSPA+ and providing next-generation speeds through a software upgrade without costly investments across the breadth of the network. As HSPA technology evolves between 2009 and 2010 to HSPA+, peak speeds could reach 20 Mbps. AT&T plans to adopt LTE (Long Term Evolution) technology to reach even higher speeds in the longer term.

The WWDC is just 6 days away and rumors are flying, people are trying to read Steve Jobs mind while everybody else is trying to guess what may come, but something for sure is that this year WWDC is not about Mac OS X completely, the spotlight was grabbed by the iPhone and this is the new fresh revenue stream for Apple and they won’t blink to keep this shiny new toy pumping money to Apple’s accounts.

Mac OS X is the fundation behind the iPhone, while the iphone has a tremendous engineering what really makes things look so enjoyable is the beast inside and this beast is being tweaked to provide even more excitement, this WWDC the world will see what thousands of third-party developers have been cooking for months.

Expect more Games, enterprise applications, utilities, more simulations of other well known applications ready to be ported to the platform and why not a iPhone Big Brother in the form of a new mobility device, that doesn’t alienate the iphone or ipod touch sales.

Apple bet on mobility and they are going for the market, the .me domain rumors if true proves in some way that mobility is the new Apple horizon. They have been fighting for the living room and won it, they have been fighting for a powerful, easy to use OS, and with OS X they won it, they have pioneered the mp3 market and there is not a good contender, they entered late to the mobile phone market with the iphone and it seems that this new war is in Apple’s favor. So if this trend continue and improve, there would be a bloodbath between the second place contenders trying to grab some marketshare.

OS X has given Apple the strenght and ability to have different devices (ipod, iphone, Apple TV, and others) working with the same OS with a tremendous success.

There is not rumored features about the new major update to Mac OS X, but if we look closely to what Microsoft desperately shown for Windows 7, don’t expect less from Apple, where multi-touch, mobility and internet will play the most important roles.

In the not so distant past the personal computer came to our homes from the enterprise users that happy with what they have as a business tool were adapting it to a more and more personal use. Every new computer or any other technology was intended first to the enterprises and then those systems found its way to home.

For Apple is the same, but in an inverse way, the mac, imac, macbook, ipod and iphone are finding its way to Business America because those employees or businesspeople have enjoyed a better personal experience and want to translated to their respective businesses.

If Apple wants to enter the business market would only has to take care of its personal market, it will drive and direct what the enterprises will adapt to, in the end, those enterprisess are managed by avid pc or mac users that will bring anything that better their performance and there is nothing more productive and efficient-wise that work with your own tools, those that you master everyday.

I think that for Apple the Business Market won’t ever represent more than their Personal Market in marketshare or sales every quarter and of course any investment aimed to get its foot into this market will be a waste of money and time, Apple only needs to make people feel comfortable with their Macbook, iMac, iPod and iPhone and the rest is history.

Today big rumor is that the .mac service will be relaunched and rebranded. Apple .Mac service is an excellent plus to any mac user, it provides an image gallery ideal for those that want to be in touch with friends and families, Sync, iDisk, email account, 10 Gigabyte of hosting space, iLife integration and the most important feature Back to My Mac, that lets you monitor, control and access your mac remotely, but the only drawback is the pricing, $99.95 for one year basic subscription and a Family Pack $179.95 a year.

This extraordinary service hasn’t been adopted by the masses because you can find all over the net free services that tend to provide the same level of integration, but free. Internet services like Google, picasa, flickr or Youtube aren’t tailored for mac users and integration with some of the is rudimentary or manual. In the end, there’s nothing that works the same way .mac does.

If Apple is planning a mass adoption of the service there are things to consider:

1. .Mac needs to be a little inexpensive, no free.
2. You can attatch your gmail space to your .mac.
3. Email and web gallery should be provided by Google on the background.
4. Free email for all, but free, apple can be the sponsor, providing mac and ipod/iphone ads or third parties ads and at the same time conquer some Windows users.
5. It must be spin off. Apple should create .mac as an alternative to hotmail or gmail and rent the ad space to google.
6. It must come preinstalled and 1 year free to any mac user.
7. iSync must works with every cell phone, imagine syncing everywhere your mobile phone from your mac or pc.
8. .Mac should be the Apple wifi supplier, Got a Mac, got wifi, and guarantee mobile connection to every mac user for a competitive price.

Maybe the Apple strategy is far from these ideas and bring us more features and exciment to the table for an even better .mac experience…

Microsoft has been showing what the next version of Windows would be and how innovative it can get when it comes to design computer interface. The next version will pack touchscreen technology system-wide, from Paint to Word, all major applications will benefit from this great technology the Big M is putting in people’s hands, finger pinch, image resize with two fingers and paint with both hands, those are the most out of the world features and we all will get crazy by the time Windows 7 hits the street. Long lines will be in front of any computer store, people will be fighter to get their hands in something so dramatic that will give us the WOW Factor all over again.

The only little problem with this new extraterrestrial technology is that you don’t need to travel the future to use it, the iphone has provided the same technology more than a year ago, but wait… Microsoft is anticipating what Mac OS X could have by telling people: See we provided the first touchscreen OS to the masses, Apple copied it. Smart. Microsoft will always succeed selling other people ideas.

The real problem is that Apple is not marketing Mac OS X to the masses, so Microsoft takes this advantages and looks like the real innovator to some people living under a rock or blind enough to see the real deal.

The iPhone has been the most copied, criticized, emulated, ripped off and trashed device of all time, but in the end everybody would like to have an iphone, even Nokia (the 800 lb gorilla) demonstrated a device that resemble the iphone and then said it was for research purpose. So, it is a mix situation, the Big M shows something to the public that may of may not end making or never be ready for mass consumption and that has been used by millions of people, then claims it is innovation in its more sincere form, Apple does little or nothing to promote its technology.

Let’s hope that Apple advertise a little more the Mac OS X and its technology to cure some people blindness and gain more marketshare at the same time.
